  • 1900 Census lists Mary under John Sedgast (son) as mother of 12 children of which 3 are living.  Mary came to US in about 1855.  She could not read or speak english.

    Death Notice: Death of Mrs. Mary Setgast: Mrs. Mary Setgast died at the home of her daugher, Mrs. Asa Bills of this township, on Thursday last, at the advanced age of 81 years, 5 months and 6 days.  She came to her daugher's home from Taylor Centre, Wayne county, last June. where she remained until her death.

    Mary Smith was born at Berlin, Germany and came to this country with her parents when she was quite young, settling in Wayne county.  here she was married to John Setgast the latter dying in October 1897.

    Twelve children were born to them. three of whom survive: Mrs. Asa Bills, Mrs. Chris Liverance, of Romulus, and John Setgast of Fenton.

    The funeral was held at the Bills home Sunday.  Rev. Peters preaching the funeral services.  On Monday the remains were taken to her old home and laid to rest beside those of her husband in the cemetery there.
